Downer awarded Warrnambool line upgrade contract

Rail Projects Victoria have announced that upgrades to the Geelong and Warrnambool line will be carried out by Downer with construction to begin mid-2020 for an estimated 18-month project.

The signalling upgrades between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool and new crossing loop at Boorcan is part of a $1.75billion project to increase reliability and improved recovery time on the Warrnambool line.

Along with the construct of a second platform, duplicate tracks, a pedestrian overpass, improved and new parking, bicycle storage facilities, and more CCTV, lighting, and myki machines to the Geelong Line.

Other upgrades on the Regional Revival program, works are being planned on Stage 2 of the Geelong Line Upgrade. The Waurn Ponds Duplication Project includes duplicated tracks South Geelong to Waurn Ponds, and level crossings will be removed at Fyans Street and Surf Coast Highway. South Geelong and Marshall stations will also be upgraded.

Downer has previously worked on the Waurn Ponds station in 2014, as well as works on the Bendigo Station upgrade and High Capacity Metro Trains Maintenance Facility.
