The Quarry

Located in the Bundaberg region of southeast Queensland this hard rock quarry currently operates with mobile plant and two mobile crushing trains located in semi-permanent areas of quarrying operation.

  • 20 staff on site
  • Production and maintenance management team
  • Maintenance trades and operators
  • Monday - Friday - 6.00am - 4.00pm (with a 2.00pm finish on a Friday)
  • Occasional Saturday work depending on production demand (where managers are on rotation for supervision)

Role and Duties

Reporting into the state operations manager, your prime responsibilities involve the daily running and development of the quarry, stakeholder management, sales and operations planning, workforce planning along with safety. Key areas of responsibility include;-

  • Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement - Demonstrate consistent leadership through effective communication and influencing strategies to engage the workforce in achieving site objectives, while managing relationships with external stakeholders including residents, regulatory authorities, and Quarries Account Managers through collaborative Sales and Operations planning.
  • Safety Management & Compliance - Develop, maintain, and deploy SOPs ensuring team understanding and adherence, equip all team members with skills to actively resolve hazards and operational issues, and take full ownership for problem resolution and action implementation.
  • Operational Performance & Optimization - Actively manage all resources (people and equipment) to meet weekly and monthly targets for sales, profit and production, project manage change initiatives, source and implement value-adding ideas into products or processes, and optimize production costs by minimizing waste, using raw materials effectively, and considering upstream implications of process design.
  • Continuous Improvement & Team Development - Involve the team in monitoring key performance indicators, actively promote and coach lean problem-solving tools (PDCA, 5 Why), and conduct regular fortnightly GEMBA visits while encouraging others to engage directly with the worksite.

Your skills and experience

You will require a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Production Process or a related field (preferred), along with a minimum of 5 years' experience in mining or quarrying operations. You will also require proven leadership experience in Quarrying Operations or Mining, and strong knowledge of the Mining & Quarrying Safety & Health Act & Regulations and hard rock quarrying and crushing processes.

Additional requirements include:

  • SSE 20+ Essential
  • Ability to understand a P&L, plan and manage a budget
  • Experience developing and managing budgets including controlling expenditure and costs (highly regarded)
  • Experience in LEAN Manufacturing (highly regarded)
  • Experience in maintenance, cost control, business improvement, OH&S, Environment and industrial relations
