My client is a highly attractive and rapidly expanding major civil construction company with a strong presence in the Victorian infrastructure sector. They undertake both principal contractor and subcontractor roles on significant projects, including the North East Link (NEL), Suburban Rail Loop (SRL), Level Crossing Removal Projects, and major road upgrades across Victoria. Due to their continued growth and commitment to safety excellence, they are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Safety Advisor to join their dynamic team.

About the Role:

The Senior Safety Advisor will play a pivotal role in championing a positive safety culture across various project sites and within the broader organisation. Reporting to the Safety Manager, this position will be responsible for providing expert advice, guidance, and support on all aspects of occupational health and safety (OHS). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's safety management system (SMS) and associated procedures.
  • Provide expert OHS advice and support to project teams, ensuring practical and effective safety solutions are implemented.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending preventative actions.
  • Develop and deliver safety training and inductions to employees and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and report on safety performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities on safety-related matters.
  • Mentor and support junior safety team members.
  • Stay abreast of changes in legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of safety plans, safe work method statements (SWMS), and other safety documentation.

Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in a safety advisory role within the civil construction industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working on major infrastructure projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Strong hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong report writing and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • A valid Victorian driver's license.
