The home to renowned theatres and cinemas in Sydney, New South Wales since the early 1900s, Sydney’s George Street entertainment strip will demolish their last remaining cinema. The City of Sydney Council, on behalf of ASX-listed Event Hospitality and Entertainment, have recently filed plans for a $225 million, 44-storey tower.

The multi-use tower will feature a new cinema complex, as well as a private rooftop terrace, a communal area, an architectural roof feature, restaurants and bars, retail tenancies and conference facilities.

The design is sleek, narrow, and said to have a ‘subtle, elegant presence on the skyline.’ The design report states the site’s proposed design ‘is contemporary and responsive to the nearby heritage items, providing greatly improved frontages to both George and Kent streets.’

Adjoining the site’s northern boundary, will be the newly approved 80-storey residential skyscraper by developers Mirvac and Combes Property Group. This residential tower is set to be Sydney’s tallest apartment tower.
