Heavy Diesel Fitter – Field Service

Permanent HDF role with extensive travel, strong rates and plenty of variety maintaining a mixed fleet across major civil projects.

An established national civil contractor is looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Fitter to join their fleet maintenance team in a permanent position.

This is not your standard workshop-based mechanic role. Approximately 95% of your time will be spent in the field, travelling across Victoria and interstate to support equipment operating on major civil and infrastructure projects.

You'll work across a genuinely varied fleet, from heavy road transport through to earthmoving equipment, vacuum trucks and specialist directional drills.

• $50.00-$60.00ph + super depending on experience
• Overtime rates and penalties on top
• Living-away-from-home and applicable travel allowances

• One RDO per month
• Approximately 95% field/site-based work
• Travel throughout Victoria and interstate
• Project rotations can include approximately 2 weeks away / 3 days off or 3 weeks away / 4 days off
• 10-12 hour days depending on project requirements

The work

You'll be responsible for keeping a diverse fleet maintained and operational across project sites.

Your duties will include:

• Scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
• Mechanical repairs and diagnostics
• Attending breakdowns and completing field repairs
• Mechanical and hydraulic fault finding
• Heavy road transport maintenance and repairs
• Maintaining civil and earthmoving equipment
• Working across specialist directional drilling equipment
• Inspections and preventative maintenance
• Larger repairs and rebuilds when required
• Working autonomously across different project locations

The fleet

You'll get exposure to equipment including:

• Volvo, Mack and Isuzu heavy trucks
• Vermeer and Ditch Witch directional drills
• CASE excavators and loaders, skid steers / bobcats
• Vacuum trucks
• Light vehicles

What we're looking for

You'll ideally have:

• Australian-recognised Heavy Diesel / Diesel Mechanic trade qualification
• 2-3+ years' post-trade experience
• Experience across heavy vehicles, mobile plant or civil equipment
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and diagnostic skills
• Ability to work independently in the field
• Current driver's licence
• Willingness to travel extensively and spend extended periods working away
• Ability to complete a pre-employment medical and National Police Check

Previous field service experience, an HC licence, Dogman ticket, Auto Electrical experience or exposure to directional drilling equipment will be highly regarded.
