Surface-based E&I Technician for a long-life UG mine in North QLD, covering the mill/flotation circuit. FIFO roster, strong rates, path to perm.
- Surface-based E&I Technician role across the full mill circuit
- 8:6/7:7 FIFO roster ex-Brisbane or Townsville
- Mining principal known for developing & upskilling
The Company & Why Join
Join a globally recognised underground mining principal with a strong safety-first culture and a genuine track record of developing long-term careers. This role puts you at a well-established, high-producing underground hard rock mine in North QLD with an estimated mine life of 20+ years, processing ore through crushing, grinding and differential flotation to produce zinc and lead concentrates. You'll work within a close-knit fixed plant maintenance crew and have genuine potential to move onto the principal's own books as roles become available.
About the Role
You'll be based on surface, working within the mill and fixed plant across the full processing circuit - crushing and grinding (SAG/ball mills), differential flotation, and concentrate thickening and filtration. Duties include:
Electrical
- Installation, maintenance and fault-finding on motors, switchboards, MCCs, VSDs, transformers and HV/LV reticulation
- HV work on large mill and crusher motors, thickener drives and flotation cell drives
- Preventative maintenance including thermal imaging, insulation testing and switchgear servicing
- Isolation/lockout-tagout around rotating equipment (SAG/ball mills, flotation cells, thickeners)
- Managing dust and hazardous area considerations specific to base metals plants, where corrosive, conductive concentrate dust can build up on electrical equipment
- Standby power and emergency systems maintenance
Instrumentation
- Calibration of process instrumentation
- Flotation-specific instrumentation - froth depth/level control, air flow to cells, and reagent dosing control for differential lead-zinc separation
- Density and pulp level instrumentation across grinding, flotation and thickening
- Online analysers - particle size and on-stream analysers for real-time grade monitoring
- Concentrate handling instrumentation - belt scales, moisture analysers and load cells for thickening, filtration and load-out
- PLC/SCADA/DCS troubleshooting, working closely with metallurgists to keep flotation bank control loops tuned and reliable
For those ticketed, there's also scope for 11kV reticulation, substation maintenance and HV switching work.
Why This Role
- 8:6 / 7:7 roster - day and night shift options, FIFO via charter from Brisbane or Townsville
- Open to candidates new to mining - provided you have sufficient industrial E&I experience
- Attractive rates + Super, depending on experience level (heavy industry through to experienced mill/fixed plant)
- Well-equipped camp with gym, wet mess, sports facilities and a dry mess with a solid standard of meals
- Long-term contract with genuine potential to move onto the principal's own books
- OEM and controls-specific training opportunities to upskill your trade
- Full PPE provided, treated as part of the team from day one

- Can-do attitude and willingness to learn
Advantageous -
- PLC/SCADA/DCS platform experience (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- Base metals or flotation plant experience
- Experience with reagent dosing and process control instrumentation
- HV switching tickets
- Experience with VSDs and soft starters
Personal Qualities
- Ability to work well under pressure, in a team and autonomously
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces around flotation cells, thickeners and tanks
- Proven teamwork and ability to get on well with others
- Excellent attitude toward work, safety as a number one priority
- Reliable, punctual, and physically fit for 12-hour shifts
