An established quarry operation west of Melbourne is seeking an experienced OHS Manager to take full ownership of the site's health, safety and training function.

The operation

This is a long-standing quarry producing sand, gravel, bluestone aggregates and specialty products, supplying a broad customer base across the construction, civil and landscaping sectors throughout Victoria.

With an annual output of approximately 500,000 tonnes and an approved site extension supporting a further 20+ years of operation, the business is well positioned for continued, long-term success.

The role

Reporting to the Quarry Manager, you will take responsibility for the coordination, monitoring and implementation of all health, safety and training requirements across the site. Working closely with all departments, you will ensure safety objectives are integrated with the business's operational goals and that the site meets all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements at all times.

  • Develop and maintain OHS policies, procedures, risk assessments and Safe Work Method Statements
  • Conduct site audits, inductions and training for all employees, contractors and visitors
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and accidents, implementing corrective actions and liaising with WorkSafe and other regulatory bodies as required
  • Maintain all safety records and registers, reporting trends and key information to management
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety culture across the operation
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with WorkSafe and other industry regulatory bodies

Your skills and experience

  • Certificate IV in OHS or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience in a safety management or coordination role within quarrying, mining or heavy industry
  • Strong working knowledge of OHS legislation and Workers' Compensation requirements in Victoria
  • Experience developing and maintaining safety management systems
  • Strong risk assessment and incident investigation capability
  • High attention to detail with a dependable, safety-conscious approach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of a business

Highly regarded:

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Prior experience working directly with WorkSafe Victoria
