The mining project

Located in Orange in central NSW, this UG mine development project supports the careers of up to 300+ people in the local vicinity to the mine. The project offers; -

  • 7:7 roster - days/ nights (12-hour shifts)
  • Thursday to Wednesday roster patterns
  • A well-connected team culture, that believes in support and training
  • A lengthy project timeframe ending in 2029

The role

Reporting to the shift boss on your crew you will enjoy working as an Underground Nipper Operator working alongside an experienced drill rig operator. Working in a close-knit team you will be involved with;-

  • Logistics & Supply: Delivering tools, drill bits, steel, explosives (if qualified), and ground support consumables (bolts, mesh) to the working face.
  • Jumbo Drill Rig Assistance: Assisting with setting up and rigging the Jumbo drill, as well as helping with ground support installation (bolting and meshing).
  • General Maintenance & Services: Extending ventilation ducting, managing water pipes, and basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Cleaning up work areas (muck), watering down headings to manage dust and identify misfires, and monitoring safety hazards.
  • Transport: Driving light vehicles or other equipment (e.g. scissor lifts) to transport personnel and materials.

Your skills and experience

You will ideally come from a trades background or experience working with hand tools and in a labour-intensive environment. Given the nature of this role, you will need to be physically fit and resilient to working in hot and hostile conditions working underground for 12 hours shifts. You will also have the following traits; -

  • An excellent attitude towards work and strong work ethic
  • Strong safety standards
  • The desire to work in the underground hard rock mining sector long term
  • A highly reliable and punctual nature
  • NSW manual drivers license (with no restrictions)
  • Experience driving manual light vehicles

Project essential requirements

  • National police check approved by site management
  • Passed medical with no restrictions
  • The mining project is a clean-shaven site (beard guidelines must be adhered to)
  • Experience driving a manual vehicle is essential
  • Residing within 45 minutes of the mine site
