The construction sector in South Australia is poised for a significant lift, thanks to the State Government’s recent announcement of a $1 billion investment in regional infrastructure. This funding is aimed at enhancing and maintaining roads in regional and remote areas, which serve as pivotal veins for the resources sector.

Key Developments Include:

  1. Augusta Highway Expansion: A crucial 28km segment between Port Wakefield and Lochiel is set to undergo duplication, with a budget of $260 million.
  2. Princes Highway Corridor Program: A substantial investment of $190 million will cater to improvements on Augusta Highway, focusing on four key junctions between Redhill and Winninowie.
  3. Further Upgrades to the Augusta Highway: As a part of the impressive $266.3 million Princes Highway Corridor Upgrade, two main junctions south of Crystal Brook will receive enhancements.
  4. Horrocks Highway Corridor Upgrade: An investment of $105 million has been earmarked to incorporate overtaking lanes between Wilmington and Gawler.
  5. Olympic Dam Highway Restoration: Recent flood damages will be addressed as a segment of the broader $75 million project aimed at bolstering the national supply chain’s resilience.

Rebecca Knol, SACOME’s CEO, voiced her endorsement, emphasizing the paramount importance of such infrastructure. She stated, “The resources sector, the very cornerstone of our State’s economy, thrives on dependable supply chain pathways, secure and proficient transport links, and the constant funding of vital infrastructure to enhance access to our mineral-rich provinces.”

She further accentuated the need for ongoing investment in infrastructure and road maintenance. Knol noted, “Such initiatives are not just about ensuring efficient logistics for the resource sector. They have far-reaching effects, benefiting diverse sectors and communities – from pastoralists and freight operators to tourists.”

With these developments on the horizon, South Australia’s construction and resources sectors can anticipate a period of sustained growth and enhanced operational efficiency.
