The Australian dream is alive and well for Sydney’s western suburbs with building approvals the highest in the state.

Housing approvals in the west are continuing to surge as the state government rolls out an ambitious development agenda to cater for an increased population boom.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than 60,000 building construction and compliance certificates for residential buildings were approved for Sydney in the last financial year equating to $38 billion.

Approximately half of these approvals belong to Sydney’s west with an estimated value of nearly $15 billion.

The data covers the number of building Construction Certificates and Complying Development Certificates issued by councils and private certifiers at the last stage of the planning process.

NSW top five suburbs for building approvals

  • Blacktown – 5,222 total dwellings, value of total building $2.22 billion
  • Parramatta – 4,057 total dwellings, value of total building $2.4 billion
  • Liverpool – 2,708 total dwellings, value of total building $1.41 billion
  • The Hills Shire – 2,547 total dwellings, value of total building $1.26 billion
  • Camden – 2,509 total dwellings, value of total building $1.16 billion

It is expected that residents in the states west will continue to be granted development approvals quicker than ever to keep up with the growing population.
