Roster

Whether you live residentially or decide to DIDO, this 8:6 roster allows for strong work life balance. The roster will include;-

  • 8 days on, 6 days off - day shift only
  • 00am start on Wednesdays to start the shift and be involved with pre-starts
  • 00pm (approx.) finish on day 8 giving you time to head home early
  • For those FIFO you will be required to fly in on day -1, however you'll return home on day 8

About the role

We are looking for an energetic, results driven Mining Engineer to join the Technical Services team. The mine site is in the middle of a complete ventilation upgrade, one exhaust system was commissioned in 2022, a second is underway, along with a fresh air intake system. The paste plant was commissioned in 2023, and the underground reticulation is to be expanded this year. The Backfill and Ventilation Engineers are responsible for the design and optimisation of our CRF, LRF and paste backfill processes, as well as design, optimisation and maintenance of our ventilation systems.

The position runs back-to-back with another backfill/ventilation engineer and reports to the Technical Services Superintendent. You'll be part of a team who are focused on working together to deliver improvement. This is a role that would be suitable for those with strong existing skills in the field or those interested in learning from a very experienced team.

Core responsibilities

  • Optimisation of ore extraction through backfill design.
  • Management of our paste fill system.
  • Be involved in the design and construction of a major ventilation upgrade.
  • Have technical input into an experienced team always open to new ideas.

Engineering responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a ventilation model to allow the accurate and realistic modeling of ventilation scenarios to support sequence optionality, long term planning and emergency management.
  • Maintain a Masterfile of ventilation infrastructure in deswik to allow the co-production of mine emergency plans with the survey department.
  • Develop backfill guidelines to guide the provision backfill plans that allow the safe, efficient and cost-effective backfilling of voids in line with LOM and MOP plans.
  • Provide rolling monthly forecasts of requirements for consumable purchasing to enable smooth production.
  • Provide input for capital purchasing.

Your Skills and Experience:

You will have come from a tertiary educational background in mine engineering and have previous experience working in UG hard rock mining as a mining engineer.

  • Exposure to backfill mining and or ventilation will be essential in our success in this role
  • Wide range of training and development options available, however a good baseline knowledge is essential
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build connected relationships through the teams on site
  • Deswick knowledge and a working knowledge of Venetism (is highly regarded)
  • Excellent safety standards and a high regard for safety processes
