As the Director of Finance and Commercial, you will play an integral role in the company's growth and operational excellence. This position involves managing financial systems, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and driving strategic financial and commercial improvement initiatives that align with the company's commitment to delivering value and maintaining sustainable practices. The role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with internal teams and external partners to support the company's financial health and business objectives.
Role Purpose
To manage the company's Finance & Commercial systems and services in accordance with statutory requirements, regulatory obligations, and business objectives.
Key Accountabilities
Leadership
- Lead the Finance and Commercial team in developing and executing agreed-upon plans and meeting stakeholder commitments while fostering the growth and development of the team and its members.
- Design and implement strategies to cultivate the desired company culture, with a focus on achieving an interdependent safety culture within your department.
- Lead by example, modeling the standards and behaviors expected from all employees and contractors.
- Ensure your team's behavior supports positive relationships with other teams, contributing to a collaborative and cohesive work environment.
Technical
As the custodian of the company's financial and commercial systems, ensure that these systems are designed and managed according to agreed requirements and plans, with a strong focus on statutory and regulatory compliance, probity, and risk mitigation. This covers areas such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Insurance, Business Analysis, Financial Accounting, and Business Planning/Budgeting.
- Provide financial system design and optimisation support to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Monitor the effectiveness of financial systems across the business, implement process improvements within your control, and advise on rectification actions outside your control.
- Deliver financial support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) while offering financial services across the company.
- Identify, propose, and support structural improvements to the Finance and Commercial Systems.
- Identify and lead strategic projects related to finance and commercial systems and processes.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and work instructions to support a robust finance and commercial system.
Business Strategy & Plans
- Contribute to the development of business plans and budgets for your team, and provide input into peers' plans as required.
- Implement business improvement and innovation programs as agreed with the CEO.
Team Membership
- Offer advice and support to the CEO to help them succeed in their overall responsibilities, including fostering the company's culture.
- Provide guidance to fellow team members to assist them in achieving their objectives.
Stakeholder Management
- Manage, or support the CEO in managing, relationships with key stakeholders, including financial auditors, service providers, and corporate finance teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in Finance/Commercial.
- Relevant degree and CA / CPA certification.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Senior Leadership Role.
- Experience with the selection and implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP).
- Strong project management experience.
